Vitamins and trace elements for a healthy immune system
Fortunately, we can do a lot to strengthen our immune system. An important building block for a stable defence is a healthy diet. Our food should be fresh and rich in fruit and vegetables so that it contains many nutrients and vital substances that our defence system urgently needs. Numerous vitamins, minerals and trace elements are now known to contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system if they are consumed in sufficient quantities. This applies z.B. to
- the fat-soluble vitamins A and D
- the B vitamins vitamin B6, folic acid (vitamin B9) and vitamin B12
- Vitamin C
- the trace elements zinc, selenium and iron
Our immune system can only function optimally and nip attacks in the bud if all the nutrients required by the immune system are available in sufficient quantities. Requirements can vary greatly depending on age and stress levels. Stress and competitive sport increase z.B. the need for nutrients. Interesting for athletes who repeatedly suffer from infections: Among other things, vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system during and after intensive physical activity. To cover their increased requirements, many athletes not only eat fruit and vegetables, but also take dietary supplements. 200 mg of vitamin C in addition to the normal daily requirement is needed for these positive effects in athletes.
