Protective Gear & Accessories

Protective Gear & Accessories for Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo & Kung Fu

The right protective gear is an important part of training in many martial arts. Especially during partner drills, sparring and competition, suitable protection helps protect vulnerable areas of the body and supports controlled training.

At Vikingstore, you'll find selected protective gear and accessories for Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Kung Fu – for beginners, experienced martial artists, children, adults, instructors and clubs.

The equipment you need depends on your discipline, style and type of training.

Protective Gear for Different Martial Arts

Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Kung Fu differ considerably in their techniques and training methods. Their protective equipment requirements are therefore different as well.

In martial arts involving punches and kicks, protection for the hands, feet, shins, head, mouth or body may be required depending on the training format.

Other disciplines focus more strongly on throws, grips and groundwork and therefore require different equipment.

Always choose your martial arts protective gear according to your actual discipline and training needs.

Protective Gear for Karate

Karate training can include basic techniques, kata, partner drills and kumite.

Depending on the style and type of training, different protective products may be used.

For kumite, these may include:

• hand protection
• foot protection
• shin guards
• mouthguards
• headgear
• groin protection
• body protection

The exact equipment required or recommended depends on your style, club, age group and applicable rules.

Protective Gear for Taekwondo

Fast, dynamic kicking techniques are a central part of Taekwondo.

Suitable Taekwondo protective gear is therefore particularly important during partner training and sparring.

Depending on the training or competition format, protection for the head, mouth, torso, forearms, shins and feet may be required.

Protective equipment should fit securely without unnecessarily restricting your freedom of movement.

Protection & Accessories for Jiu-Jitsu

Jiu-Jitsu can include very different techniques depending on the particular style.

Throws, joint locks, gripping techniques and groundwork may be combined with striking or kicking techniques in some systems.

The protective gear required for Jiu-Jitsu can therefore vary considerably.

If you're joining a new club, ask your instructor which protective equipment is required and which types are permitted during training.

Accessories for Judo

Judo focuses primarily on throws, gripping, control and groundwork.

Traditional striking and kicking protection therefore plays a much smaller role in regular Judo training than it does in disciplines such as Karate or Taekwondo.

However, various training accessories can still be useful for Judoka and their athletic preparation.

Protection & Accessories for Kung Fu

Kung Fu covers a wide variety of Chinese martial arts styles with very different training methods.

Depending on the school, training may include forms, punches, kicks, partner drills and other traditional methods.

There is therefore no single type of protective equipment that is automatically suitable for every Kung Fu style.

Follow the recommendations of your school and instructor when choosing your equipment.

Headgear, Mouthguards & Body Protection

The head, teeth and body can be particularly exposed during certain types of partner training.

Depending on your discipline and training intensity, headgear, mouthguards and body protection may therefore form part of your personal equipment.

Correct sizing and a secure fit are essential.

Protective gear should not constantly move out of position or restrict your movement more than necessary.

Shin & Foot Protection

In martial arts involving intensive kicking techniques, shin and foot protection can be particularly important.

These protectors may be used during technical drills, partner training and sparring.

When choosing them, pay attention to the correct size, secure fit and intended use.

Groin Protection for Martial Arts

Depending on the martial art and type of training, groin protection may form part of your personal protective equipment.

Fit and secure positioning are particularly important.

Competition regulations may also specify particular requirements.

Protective Gear for Children

Correct sizing is especially important for children.

Adult protective equipment should not simply be used if it is clearly too large for the child.

Oversized protectors can move out of position, fit poorly and interfere with training.

Pay particular attention to:

• correct size
• secure fit
• sufficient freedom of movement
• age-appropriate design
• recommendations from the instructor or club

Protective Gear for Beginners – What Do I Really Need?

If you're just starting Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo or Kung Fu, you don't need to buy every possible type of protection immediately.

Ask your instructor which equipment is actually required at your club.

This helps avoid unnecessary purchases and ensures that your equipment matches your discipline and training environment.

Protective Gear for Training & Competition

There is an important distinction between training and competition equipment:

Protective gear suitable for everyday training is not automatically approved for official competition.

Depending on the martial art and federation, there may be specific requirements concerning design, material, colour, markings or approval.

If you compete, always check the current rules for your discipline and event.

Federation requirements and approvals can change.

Accessories for Martial Arts Training

In addition to personal protective equipment, various training tools can help develop technique, precision, speed, coordination and conditioning.

For striking and kicking drills, explore our focus mitts & strike pads.

You can find additional equipment in our combat sports & boxing accessories.

For strength, conditioning, speed and coordination, you can also complement your martial arts sessions with our training accessories.

Don't Forget the Right Martial Arts Clothing

The right clothing is another essential part of your equipment.

Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Jiu-Jitsu and Kung Fu have different requirements when it comes to uniforms and training clothing.

Choose clothing specifically suited to your discipline, training and, where relevant, competition regulations.

Protective Gear for Clubs & Martial Arts Schools

Reliable equipment is not only important for individual athletes.

Instructors, clubs and martial arts schools also regularly require protective and training equipment for partner drills, technical sessions and sparring.

Vikingstore therefore serves individual martial artists as well as instructors, clubs and martial arts schools throughout Switzerland.
