Your questions and our answers
Here we answer all the important questions about the punching bag. If the answer to your question is not listed - no problem! Simply send us your question by email to hello@vikingstore.ch and we will be happy to help you.
How many kg does a punching bag have to weigh?
The answer to this question depends on who will be using the punching bag and what it will be used for.
If the punching bag is to be used by an adult for normal boxing training, the weight should be around 50% of your own body weight. So if you weigh 75kg, the punching bag should weigh approx. 40kg.
For training kicks for martial arts such as Muay Thai or kickboxing, the punching bag should be approx. 75% to 100% of your body weight.
How big should a punching bag be?
How big or long a punching bag should be always depends on your training. If you want to box normally and train your punches, then a punching bag for adults should be between 120cm and 150cm long.
However, if you also want to train kicks, the punching bag should be between 150cm and 180cm long, depending on your height.
How can you hang up a punching bag?
There are special punching bag wall mounts and punching bag ceiling mounts. Which of these is the ideal punching bag holder depends on the available space and of course the material of the ceiling or wall.
If the wall is made of drywall (plasterboard), for example, it should not be mounted on the wall because it cannot support the weight of the punching bag. To do this, you should first tap the wall and check whether it sounds hollow.
Alternatively, you can also hang a punching bag on a punching bag stand or other training equipment such as a pull-up bar. A bar is also very suitable.
At what height should a punching bag hang?
Basically, a punching bag for normal boxing training should hang with its upper edge approx. 10 cm above your head. This can be easily adjusted with a steel chain and a suitable snap hook, which allows you to control the length of the chain perfectly.
