Dennis James Classic
David Hoffmann wins and becomes Mr Olympia qualifier!
Just a few weeks ago, David Hoffmann was on stage at Mr Olympia 2018 to prove himself in the Classic Physique against strong and well-known competitors. However, the German IFBB Pro was unable to secure a place in the final. In the end, the judges placed him in 11th place, causing a certain amount of disappointment for both the Weider athlete himself and his fans. However, there was no time to despair at that moment, as new plans were made immediately after the competition in Las Vegas to be able to take part in the prestigious event again next year and achieve a better result!
With his first steps as an IFBB Pro, David Hoffmann immediately made it clear that he is a force to be reckoned with in the future. Although he only managed a bronze medal at the New York Pro last May, the 38-year-old also won the Veronica Gallego Classic in Alicante, Spain, in addition to the San Marino Pro, thus securing qualification for the Mr Olympia twice over. Leaving aside his eleventh place in Las Vegas, it was certainly a successful start to the professional ranks. In order to make 2018 a conciliatory year and ring in the more than deserved build-up with a positive feeling, it was important to maintain the impression made in the first three competitions as an IFBB Pro.
There is no doubt that he succeeded in doing so impressively. At the Dennis James Classic, David Hoffmann impressed across the board and presented himself in his usual impeccable form with outstanding toughness. It was therefore no surprise that the 38-year-old, who was considered the clear favourite, was in the spotlight right from the start and lived up to his role. Although the competing contestants, none of whom were on stage at the Mr Olympia, definitely didn't make it easy for him, "The Hoff" dominated the field and ultimately deserved his victory in Frankfurt's Jahrhunderthalle. He was presented with the trophy for first place by Markus Rühl, Dennis Wolf and Dennis James.
Ahead of Kelvin Hinde from Great Britain, his strongest competitor on the day, David Hoffmann won the Dennis James Classic and bagged the qualification for the 2019 Mr Olympia that he had been aiming for in the run-up to the event. After what felt like an eternity on a diet, the Weider athlete can now loosen the reins a little and start building up to achieve the necessary improvements!
