Wear groin protection when boxing
It makes a lot of sense to wear a groin guard when boxing, as it can sometimes happen during sparring or in competitions that the punch goes too deep. This creates an uncomfortable feeling and the fight can even be interrupted and decided in favour of the injured party. It is highly advisable to wear groin protection in almost all sports, regardless of whether you are a man or a woman. However, especially in martial arts such as MMA or kickboxing, a groin guard should not be dispensed with, as the risk of injury is even higher here.
The right groin guard for boxing
There are a large number of different groin guards. In the meantime, one can almost speak of a science in itself. A distinction can be made between the smaller groin guards, which are also suitable for martial arts such as MMA and KWON, and the really big groin guards for boxing. Most are standard groin guards without any extras. The higher quality models offer optimised cushioning and a better feel. The wearing comfort in particular plays an important role, as you don't want to restrict your freedom of movement with the groin guard. This also means that it should not constantly slip and should not cause any unpleasant abrasions from the edges.
Many cheap models are made of a kind of thick foam and are not recommended. The better groin guards are made of high-quality plastic and provide much better cushioning. So it makes a big difference what material the groin guard is made of. Good products can be purchased for as little as CHF 20. The "real" groin guards for boxing are much larger and are usually made of real cowhide, so you hardly feel a thing even with a hard punch. You've probably seen professional boxers wearing this type of groin guard when sparring.
